What is Coaching?

Coaching is the partnership between a certified professional coach and a client with the goal of helping the client reach their pull potential and overcome difficult life decisions and situations. Having a coach offers people a safe, unbiased, and non-judgmental person to go to and get help with their struggles.

A coach can help you achieve your life goals by supporting you in the following:

  • Clarifying your reality

  • Goal setting and planning

  • Overcoming struggles (addiction, betrayal, etc)

  • Building action plans

  • Identifying blocks and limiting beliefs

  • Improving relationships

  • Emotional/physical health and wellness

  • Dealing with transitions

  • Identifying strengths

  • Becoming empowered

  • Pursuing a life transformation

As your coach, I will help you do these things by asking you the right questions, which will help me gain a better understanding of your situation; but more importantly, they help you to analyze and determine what you need to do for yourself. This is much more effective than getting advice or being told what to do. In fact, unsolicited advice can often make situations worse and negatively affect relationships. Which is why the coaching process is so successful. Once we determine what is best for you and begin creating plans, I will be there in a supportive and empathetic way to encourage you and hold you accountable to your goals. If you work your plan and stick with the process, you will begin achieving much more than you possibly could on your own, and your mindset can become completely transformed!

Coaching is not...

Coaching is not therapy. Coaching is not about diagnosing and treating mental illnesses and disorders. It is for people who are struggling to find direction, purpose, and/or productivity in their lives. Or those who are struggling to overcome difficult situations that keep preventing them from a satisfying and fulfilling life. It is goal and action oriented, and helps clients get to where they want to be by planning and moving forward.

Coaching is not casual "advice-giving." If it was, anyone could do it. Coaching is a process that takes skills and hard work. It takes someone who is intuitive, understanding, knowledgeable, and most importantly, trained. A coach must be able to ask the right questions, while keeping themselves out of the equation so the client can determine what they want and need. For advice to be effective, it needs to be from a non-judgmental and unbiased source; and the person giving the advice needs to know that it is up to the other person to decide if it is right for them. That is what trained coaches are experts at doing!

Coaching is not telling people what to do. Not only would this be ineffective, it also wouldn't be possible. No one knows someone'e entire story and what is best for them. As mentioned previously, unwanted advice and being told what to do is rarely helpful. Coaches are trained to ask the right questions to help the client identify their core values and stick to them while deciding for themselves what is best for them to do. Which is much more empowering and beneficial for the client.

As your coach, I would love to support you through your struggles and help you get your life to the place you want it to be.
